MULTI-PURPOSE FIRE TRUCK: Advance Volunteer Fire Department Lt. Jeff Randle stands in front of the deaprtment's Engine 52, which was to go into service Friday at AFD's station in Dover. The 2004 Pierce Contender truck, equipped to handle rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and emergency medical runs as well as fires, is valued at $350,000 to $400,000. It had been used at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan and was awarded to AFD through a competitive grand program. Advance Fire obtained the truck, which came with $30,000 to $40,000 of equipment, for the $45,000 cost of shipping it from Afghanistan.
