READY FOR LIFTOFF: Volunteers, board members and guests at the Sugar Creek Art Center prepare to take a ride on the newly installed elevator on Friday. The center has been raising money for three years to get a new elevator installed, said Karen Wright (second from right), president of the Sugar Creek Art Center board. The state deemed the old freight elevator inadequate for use in 2013. Since then, the center has raised $150,000 for the installation of the new elevator and cut costs in order to help pay for it.
The organization saved the wooden racks that lined the old elevator, Wright said. She hopes that in the future artists will incorporate them into their work.
